WOOD ENGRAVINGS

Wood Engravings

A wood engraving, a very old, painstaking process, is made by cutting each line into the end grain of a block of smooth. level wood. Each cut line will print as a white line. Uncut areas print as black.

Wood Engraving is a very old, painstaking process. The Sears Catalog and old advertising images were done as wood engravings during the 1800's. Wood engraving allows fine detail. Sometimes the blocks show fine cracks as they age and they are a part of the wear on the block.
